Capturing one moment in time — with all the emotions that are expressed in that single frame — is what Blair Dupre enjoys about photography.
“I like preserving moments in time,” the Belton photographer said. “I also enjoy the challenge of getting the camera to see things how I do.”
Sometimes a camera does not quite capture a moment the way the photographer sees it, so Dupre said she enjoys the challenge of manipulating the camera settings to produce the image she sees in her mind.
“It’s the perfect balance of science and art,” she said.
Dupre’s passion for photographer started as a teenager growing up in the small town of Orange, about 30 miles east of Beaumont. During her freshman year of high school, she requested a new camcorder as a Christmas present. That last-minute request would change the course of her life.
“Instead of a camcorder, I received a Canon Rebel T2i,” she said. “After I snapped that first photo with it, I couldn’t put it down.”
Dupre began experimenting with different types of photography, principally sports and portraits, where she was able to practice and grow her natural talent and express herself behind the lens.
“Especially in sports, things only happen once and I like to be the one capturing those moments,” she said. “In shoots where I have more control, like portraits, I enjoy showcasing my models and expressing myself through my photos.”
She said she finds creative inspiration in a variety of ways, from clothing, to accessories, to decorations and more. She also shared that when her subject is excited to have their photo taken, it helps to feed that inspiration and capture something beautiful.
Dupre graduated from University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2018, with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and a minor in economics. While studying at UMHB, Dupre was the photo editor and lead photographer of the UMHB Bluebonnet yearbook for three years.
Her photos were also used in marketing materials and decorations throughout the campus.
After graduation, UMHB continued to use her skills as a contractor taking photos of various events and people, for their alumni magazine.
While studying at UMHB, Dupre fell in love with Central Texas and decided to stay. She currently works as the living editor of the Fort Hood Sentinel, capturing images of the men and women in uniform at Fort Hood. She is also growing her small photography business in Belton.
“The support of my parents and my friends has turned me into the photographer that I am today,” she said. “I’m incredibly grateful to all of them.”
