Capture summer in 3-D frames you make yourself
Story and photos by SHARON WHITE
Summer is a time to make memories. While the kids are home, get them involved in crafting fun using wood frames they can design themselves (with a little help).*
Purchase 5 x 7 or 4 x 6 unfinished wood frames from the hobby store.
Choose a theme for your frame (sports, beach, camping, birthday, 4th of July, Father’s Day, vacation, holidays, weddings, girls’ trips, etc.).
Using paint, wrapping paper, or even one-ply napkins, cover your wood frame. Elmer’s Glue or Mod Podge works well with paper.
Add embellishments like glitter, shells, ribbon, dried flowers, beads or pompoms. And personalize with wood cutouts, fun foam or scrapbooking stickers (also available at the hobby store).
Get a group together, be creative.
The frames will keep kids (and adults) busy and they make great gifts for grandparents, brides, coaches, teachers, etc.
*Make sure to supervise if kids are using a hot glue gun or acrylic paint, which may not wash out of clothing.
